It's May! Is it too late to start tutoring before the diploma exam?
Not at all. While starting earlier is always ideal, even a few weeks of focused support can make a meaningful difference. At this stage, tutoring is less about relearning the entire course and more about refining key skills, addressing gaps, and building confidence before the exam.
How can tutoring help this close to the exam?
In the final stretch, tutoring becomes highly targeted. Sessions often focus on:

One Grade 12 student that I worked with last year was struggling with reading comprehension. He started tutoring sessions in May (around six weeks before his diploma). He was really concerned about his Part B Diploma because he had an average of fifty percent on his in-class reading comprehension exams; however, after a few weeks of intensive tutoring, and practice, he was able to get eighty percent on his next exam and went on to do well on the diploma! This goes to show that if you get the right support, and you are willing to put in the work, your grade can change substantially in a short amount of time.
How many tutoring sessions will I need?
This depends on your goals and how you are feeling about your current grade. Students who want to significantly raise their mark, or those who have struggled throughout the semester, often benefit from two sessions per week. Those looking to refine a few key skills typically find that one session per week is enough.
What should I focus on leading up to the ELA 30-1 diploma?
In the weeks leading up to your exam, I recommend focusing on:
identifying how released prompts relate to the texts you have studied
reviewing excellent PRT and CRTs
practicing creating thesis statements in response to various released prompts
reviewing feedback on your previous work
building a strong understanding of literary devices

If your goal is simply to pass, you may not need extra help.
