Preparing for the ELA 30-1 Part A and Part B exams.

During my tutoring sessions, I often get asked the same questions. What's the best text to use for my Part A diploma? Is it better to use the poem, short story, or image when writing my PRT? Is there even a way to study for the Part B reading comprehension exam?

Over time, I have compiled a list of these questions. I wanted to find a way to address them in an accessible, online format; so, in anticipation of the ELA 30-1 Diploma exams, I will be offering one-hour Q&A sessions that address commonly asked questions and provide helpful insight into preparing for the Part A and Part B diploma exams.

In these sessions, you will get access to an experienced ELA tutor for an hour, in a small group, and you can bring your own questions.

What Information Will be Covered During These Sessions?

Here is a quick breakdown of the key concepts I will explore in each session.

ELA 30-1 Part A:

  • Choosing between the image, poem, and prose selection

  • How to create a strong thesis statement

  • The best texts to prepare for a CRT

  • How to structure and effectively plan a PRT and CRT

  • Preparing evidence for your CRT ahead of time

  • Common mistakes students make

ELA 30-1 Part B:

  • How to approach the reading comprehension exam

  • Recognizing recurring question types

  • Exploring vocabulary that frequently appears on diploma exams

  • Understanding literary devices and terminology

  • Strategies for managing your time

How Much Do These Sessions Cost?

The sessions will cost eighteen dollars per student.

How Many Students Will be in Each Session?

Sessions will be capped at twelve students to ensure that everyone is able to get the support and insight they need.

How Will I Join the Session?

All sessions will take place online via Google Meet. Upon registration, you will receive the meeting link. I will also send a reminder email to all participants the morning of the session that includes the meeting link as well.

Can I Submit My Own Questions?

Absolutely! These sessions are designed to offer students the opportunity to ask me any questions they have. Each participant will be emailed a Google form link before the session takes place; this will give them the opportunity to ask their questions ahead of time. Students can also ask questions during the session as well.

Will You Offer Separate Sessions for Part A and Part B?

Yes, each session will be focussed on either the Part A or Part B exam to ensure that we are able to cover as much as possible for each exam!

Who Are These Diploma Sessions For?

My goal is to make these sessions beneficial for all students taking the ELA 30-1 exam; however, there are a few groups of students that I think will particularly benefit from this opportunity.

Due to the condensed format (one hour in length), these sessions are especially well suited for students with busy schedules.

These sessions are also a great fit for students who want targeted diploma preparation support without committing to one-on-one tutoring or a full-length diploma course.

Want to Be Notified When Registration Opens?

Registration for these sessions will open in early November. If you'd like to be notified as soon as registration opens, please join my mailing list by scrolling to the bottom of this page and filling out the subscription form.

I hope to see you at one of the sessions!
